Built on the banks of the Talbragar River, Dunedoo was originally named Redwood, pop. 850.
Back along the bumpy road & on to Dunedoo via Singleton we travelled 286 k’s to arrive at the caravan park around 3:30 PM only to find office hours are 5:00pm to 6:00pm. A sign says pick any site & staff will find you. All booked sites shown on map of park & only one left which we took, although physically the park was almost empty. C.P. has only 18 powered sites but they had doubled up putting 2 vehicles on each site (yes, the sites are huge), they also managed another 6 unpowered sites. Julie (staff, does everything) arrived said O.K. so we stayed till Sunday for the Bush Poets State Championship. Town is very small, eating out guide shows the pie shop, milk bar, cafĂ© & pub. However people are very friendly. After a casual walk & a drink at the pub we had exhausted our options on things to do so back to the park.
Thursday evening was meet & greet at the park, Friday the contest began in earnest starting at 4:00pm. After listening to several hours of poetry, we decided to call it a day.
Saturday we went to the markets, bought a few trinkets then spent till 4:30 listening to some brilliant poetry with a 1.5 hour break for lunch. Very windy day, cold morning developing to a warm sunny day.
Today is the last day of the contest with breakfast with the poets, then it’s off to Coolah Tops National Park.
