Well, we've been on the road a week now so
time for the first log.
Leaving home last Sunday, we travelled
465K's to Gundagai where we camped for the night on the banks of Morley creek,
no amenities but only 1 block behind all the shops. After making ourselves
comfortable we headed into town for a look around. We know it's Sunday but
where are the people, not a soul in sight. We found a couple of restaurants
& decided on an early dinner, choosing the chinese. Monday saw us up bright
& early for the run to Numurkah, our destination for the rest of the week.
It was an easy trip (386K's) but the place we picked was closed to us & so
we looked around. Seeing a couple of motorhomes in the local Lions Park we
pulled in. There was a great spot on the river but we noticed that the other
vans were all in the center of the park. We learned from the others that
camping was not allowed along the river bank so we set up camp with them.
They turned out to be a friendly crowd,
happy hour each day, a bus trip on Tuesday to Aintree Apiary to sample their
honey, almonds & olives. Then onto the Big Strawberry for lunch & later
one of the local wineries for a tasting. Wednesday we spent looking around town
& doing a bit of shopping prior to entering the combined Victorian chapter
rally.
The rally was held in the showground &
over the next 4 days we played disc bowls, ladder golf, had loooong happy
hours, bought BBQ dinner Thur & Fri nights then entertainment till about
10:00 PM, went to a Wizard of Oz themed ball on Sat night, & then BBQ again
Sunday night, presentation of awards & more entertainment. Monday will see
us packing up & moving on.
